Frequently asked questions

Prior to the event, we will host a series of exciting activities. You'll be able to gain an exclusive insider understanding of our airline operations, and partake in ‘experience days’ and technical workshops provided by our partners, all in preparation for the big event.

On the day of the event, coaches & mentors from Cathay Pacific will be present to provide support to all participants. Guidance will be provided on airline industry knowledge, technical development, prototype design, as well as presentation skills. Partner organizations from different technological areas, including cloud service provider Amazon Web Services, will also provide technical support and advice on the spot.

This Hackathon is targeted towards current university students, but it is open to the public and we welcome applications from non-university students as well, including young industry professionals.

Yes, you are welcome to apply as an individual without any pre-formed team members.

You will have the opportunity to know other participants and form your own team at our experience days and specifically the team formation event after the confirmation of your attendance. Otherwise, you would be assigned to a team prior to the event.

Teams must consist of at least 3, and no more than 5 people. Each team must also comprise of all 3 roles (Product Master, Designer and Developer).

Participants may apply as a pre-formed team, or join as an individual (forming a team at our team formation event before the Hackathon).

For pre-formed teams:

  • To apply as a pre-formed team, please submit a team application form together with all your team members.
  • Applicants who have submitted an individual application will not be able to apply as a team member of a pre-formed team.
  • In the event that we receive an excess of applications, all applications will be subjected to the same review process to select participants for the event.
We understand you may not only identify with a single role, so you can indicate multiple roles for individual applications. However, you will get to meet other individuals during the team formation event and would be able to decide on a specific role upon forming your team.
Application will close on 23 September 2019 and all successful applicants will be informed of their application results by email on or before 30 September 2019.
Participants will present their ideas and conduct a live-demo in their first round pitch, while Top 5 teams will then have the final round pitch to the Judging Panel.
You must present a functional demo of your idea at the pitch sessions on 10 November. The prototype should demonstrate the key features, but not in alternative forms such as presentation slides - it has to be the real thing!
